Update on Isabelle

Isabelle continues to need your support.

RAPS-Isabelle-Update011117-2

Dr. Schaufele of the Richmond Animal Hospital reports that Isabelle’s burns are approximately 80% healed. Her pain is under control, her energy is returning and she is noticeably happier. She continues to require acute veterinary care, including multiple bandage changes daily, hydrotherapy, laser therapy, and oral, topical and inter-ocular medications. She may require specific surgical procedures to prevent infections and surgical removal of damaged tissue.

Isabelle is responding heroically but will require anywhere from six months to a year of intensive recovery oversight to protect and heal her wounds. Isabelle will require a stable, safe home environment where she can properly heal.

Isabelle is a sweetheart and very loving to humans.

She will also need to be monitored for any behavioral issues resulting from the accident, including how she responds to being around other animals. We will continue to update on Isabelle’s condition and we thank everyone who has generously stepped up to fund her medical care. Isabelle’s case is an example of why RAPS exists. We are a no-kill animal-serving agency and we will never give up on an animal that has a hope for recovery.

That is why RAPS is committed to continuing to provide all the financial and other resources for Isabelle while she is in our care. This is possible because of your support.

When you give … they live. Thank you!

During the earning morning hours of December 20th, we received an urgent call to help a dog caught in a burning home.

Two dogs were caught in the flames; one dog escaped unharmed but tragically Isabelle suffered second degree burns to her paws, belly, chest and face.

Isabelle’s owner, being homeless and with limited funds, was unable to afford the cost of medical treatment.

RAPS jumped in to help fund the immediate veterinary care Isabelle desperately needed in order to survive.

See the whole story on last night’s CBC Vancouver News. Click here to view. Isabelle’s segment begins at 18:39.

Isabelle is being treated with antibiotics, pain medication and topical ointments.  She requires daily constant monitoring and wound care as she fights to heal her scarred body.

Time and need is of the essence.

Please consider donating towards the cost of Isabelle’s vet bills.
