Commitment & Expectations

Volunteers commit to at least one shift per week. Most shifts are 2–4 hours — a small investment of time that makes a big difference for animals in our care.

  • Thrift Stores: 4-hour shifts (10am–2pm or 1pm–5pm, Monday–Friday; student shifts available 3:30–5pm)
  • Cat Sanctuary & Adoption Centre: 2–4-hour shifts (morning start at 9am; afternoon/evening start at 5pm or 6pm).
  • Animal Hospital: 2-hour shifts (4pm–6pm).
  • To provide consistency and stability for the animals, we ask for a minimum 6-month commitment.
  • Volunteers must be willing to complete a criminal record check and sign a Volunteer Agreement before starting.
  • Volunteering at RAPS is a valued opportunity. To ensure the best experience for both animals and people, placements are made thoughtfully and may be adjusted as needed.
  • By volunteering with RAPS, you consent to photos or video taken at our locations or events being used for promotional purposes (print, web, and social media).
  • Students completing school service hours must fulfill their commitments to their supervisor’s satisfaction in order to be signed off.
  • And finally, we want to get to know you — please complete your application in your own words so we can learn about your unique voice, experiences, and passion.
