We celebrate each and every person who helps us saver and improve the lives of animals.
This month, we recognize Natalie Wong, who helps at the RAPS Animal Hospital. The RAPS Animal Hospital keeps veterinary care affordable by eliminating the profit motive from vet care. But we also depend on people like Natalie to do tasks that keep things running smoothly – like cleaning the spaces and keeping the place shiny and spotless despite the constant parade of species coming through!
We asked Natalie a few questions …
How long have you been volunteering and/or working with RAPS?
I have been volunteering at RAPS weekly since April 2024.
What makes you committed to RAPS?
My family and I have been loyal clients of RAPS since adopting our dog in 2018. Throughout the years, RAPS has provided us with excellent and quality care. Earlier this year, my dog had a serious health crisis and required many follow-up visits. This experience has furthered my appreciation for the entire team.
What is your favourite / least favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of the job is seeing all the different animals getting quality care from the amazing team. I also love seeing Quill [Dr. Tom’s unbelievably sweet and gorgeous Golden Retriever who works reception] every week! My least favourite part of the job is the smell of fresh cat poop haha.
Tell us about yourself (where you grew up, family, pets, etc.)
I am currently a student at Simon Fraser University, studying Health Sciences. I grew up in a family of 4 in Richmond, BC and currently live in Vancouver, BC. I have one dog and her name is Apple!
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time on the weekends, I love taking Apple on adventures. She loves to go shopping in dog-friendly stores!
Tell us more about Apple!
My dog, Apple, is an 8-year-old rescue Pomeranian. She was found on the streets in Asan, South Korea, and brought to a high-kill shelter. Fortunately, she was rescued by her foster mom who partners with a dog rescue in BC. She has been living with me and my family for the past 6 years. She is the most cat-like dog ever. If she could sleep and eat all day, she would! Her favourite foods include chicken, lettuce, and carrots. She loves her people and puts a smile on everyone’s face.
