Opal and Octavia: Another happy ending

Posted on November 4, 2017

It never gets repetitive. Two blog posts in a row celebrating happy endings for felines who found their way to RAPS.

Opal and Octavia were two of the nine beautiful Siamese cats who came to RAPS as a group of strays found on a Richmond farm.

Eight-month-old Opal was one of the most inquisitive and outgoing of the group, although she was still quite fearful of people. She ended up coming around quickly and won the hearts of all our staff and visitors with her sweet personality and stunning looks!

After Opal’s new (and amazing) human Mom and Dad took her home, they quickly realized that their family was incomplete, and that they needed another feline friend for themselves and Opal.

Although all of Opal’s littermates had been adopted, there was still one cat from the group left at RAPS who was constantly overlooked. Sweet and timid Octavia (who we suspected to be Opal’s mom) was having a hard time adjusting to the Shelter and was quite terrified. She was easy to handle, but spent most of her time hiding and avoiding being seen. We knew that Octavia needed a patient and loving home, preferably with another gentle cat, to help her blossom into the cat we knew she could be!

When our assistant manager heard about Opal’s family’s search for another cat, she immediately called them and encouraged them to come meet Octavia. Opal’s family came to the Shelter the very same day and, despite how fearful Octavia was, instantly knew they wanted to offer her a home!

Opal’s Mom and Dad took Octavia home and reported that Opal was immediately showering her Mama with kisses and purrs and that the two found comfort with each other right away. That was a few months ago, and their family just sent us another amazing update:

“We wanted to provide an update on Opal and Octavia. They are doing so, so well in our home. Octavia has entirely come out of her shell and hangs out with us all the time. She and Opal play tag around the house and are spoiled with lots of toys and love. We want to thank you again for matching us with Octavia after I regretted not adopting Opal’s brother Orion. They are both the sweetest cats ever and we couldn’t be happier.”

We are thrilled to match each cat with the family that is purrrrfect for them. Nothing makes us happier than hearing happy ending adoption updates from our RAPS alumni. We look forward to many more updates from Opal and Octavia’s family and we are so happy that they found such an amazing and loving home.

These stories are all possible because of your support. RAPS is able to save and improve the lives of animals because of a community of animal-lovers – that includes you!
